Mum goes from office to office for donations

ALOR SETAR: For the sake of putting food on the table and to treat her ailing son, a mother throws away any feelings of shame and goes to offices hoping to collect donations from caring individuals.
The unemployed mother-of-three, Rohariza Che Lah, 32, has resorted to this since her youngest son, two-year-old Mohamad Shahrul Danish Hisham, was diagnosed with heart problems at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here following breathing difficulties.
"Doctors haven't confirmed whether the disease is serious or not, but my son requires frequent treatment which I can't afford," she told reporters at her home in Tongkang Yard, here.
Rohariza and her family, who rely solely on the goodwill of neighbours to survive, live in a small room they rent for RM80 per month as her husband, Hisham Zainol, 36, is unable to do heavy work due to injuries from a road accident seven months ago.
The room, which measures one metre by six metres, is where they sleep, eat, cook, eat and they borrow the neighbour's toilet when necessary.
"I used to work at a restaurant for RM10 daily before my youngest child was born and my husband worked in a paddy field, but now I stay home to take care of our son while Hisham goes out to help people for a small payment," said Rohariza, adding that she has yet to hear from the Welfare Department on her aid application.
Members of the public who wish to help the family can visit them at their rented room at No. 140, Jalan Bunga Raya, Tongkang Yard, Alor Setar, as she does not have a bank account or mobile phone.
